David Pease graduated from USM with a BA in Political Science in 1982. He later earned his master’s in Human Resources at Lesley University and went on to a long, successful career as an HR professional. Today, David serves as senior vice president and director of talent, diversity and inclusion at Bangor Savings Bank, one of USM’s valued employer partners. Working with the Career Hub, Bangor Savings has participated in networking events, career fairs, and has hired USM graduates.

“I loved my classes at USM and, as a liberal arts major, I had the great fortune of taking courses in a wide variety of interests and majors. Yet  I knew I needed to supplement my excellent education with real-world work experience. I had the opportunity to have two amazing internships –– one at the Portland Chamber of Commerce and one with a PR/Legislative firm in Washington DC –– that provided me much needed work skills, but more importantly built my confidence in myself as a professional.

“These internships were a primary reason why I was selected for the Presidential Fellow at USM with Robert Woodbury following the year after graduation. In addition to learning a huge amount and completing meaningful projects for Public Affairs, Admissions and Finance – I spent four months in Employee Relations where I discovered the dynamic and exciting world of human resources. That experience made all the difference in my career –– as I celebrate my 37th year as a transformational HR leader.”

“We have enjoyed working with USM students on mock interviews, networking events, career fairs and as employees.”
